Discuss the situation of Female & Juvenile prisoners Correctional Facility in the Central Prison of Al- Shura Council

Committee of Rights and Freedoms and the Civil Society Organizations in Al-Shura Council held a meeting today under the chairmanship of Vice-President of Al-Shura Council Mr. Abdu Mohammed Al-Janadi.

The meeting has been devoted to discuss the report of the Committee on the reform situation of Female & Juvenile prisoners Correctional Facility in the Central Prison and Dar Al-Amal For the Girls Care in Sana’a, which is the summary of the field visit for the members of the Committee of Rights and Freedoms and civil Society Organizations during the past period, and meetings with the Attorney General and the National prisoner Foundation and specialists from Ministry of Interior.

The report stressed the importance of applying the criteria for receiving prisoners, including women, in accordance with the provisions of the applicable laws and speed up litigation procedures and trials to achieve constitutional provisions and legislation in force and international covenants on human rights. Stressing the importance of coordination between the role of juvenile care Houses and the Central Correctional.

The Vice-Chairman of Al- Shura Council praised the effort made by the Commission in the preparation of the report so as to contribute to overcome difficulties related to prisons and male and female inmates in the Correctional Facilities.

Al-Janadi pointed to the importance of improving the protection rehabilitation and care services of prisoners and thus alleviating their suffering.

The meeting was approved to refer the report to the next meeting of the Main Committee to implement the decision of the Presidency of the Council Authority in this regard.

The meeting was attended by members of the Committee of Rights and Freedoms and Civil Society Organizations Ms. Hassiba Shanif, Ms. Mona Bashrahil, Derham Al-Za’akry, Mr. Nabil Al Hammadi.

Knowing that, AL- Shura Council, headed by President of the Council, Mr. Mohammed Hussein Al-Aidaroos, Heads of Rights and Freedoms Committees, , and Civil Society Organizations, defense and security, constitutional, legal, judicial, and the Health in the Council, and a number of members of Al- Shura Council, visited on Wednesday, 16 May 2019 the National Prisoner Foundation’s Headquarter and held an expanded meeting with the leadership of the Foundation, to see the activities of the Foundation.

Where the meeting has been devoted, which included the president of the National Prisoner Foundation’s Mr. Tawfik Al-Khamri, and The member of Al- Shura Council the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation Mr. Yahya Al-Habbari, to see the activities and projects of the National Prisoner Foundation within five years of its establishment, in the care and rehabilitation of prisoners, in the framework of the Committee of Rights and Freedoms and the Civil Society Organizations plan in Al- Shura Council for the current year.

The President of Al- Shura Council praised the role of the National Prisoner Foundation in mobilizing community efforts, and its activities and programs related to the status of prisoners, and the participation of official efforts in the rehabilitation.

Mr. Al-Aidaroos, pointed out that the National Prisoner Foundation with clear fingerprints in solving many of the problems of prisoners and care for their families, as well as the release of several insolvent prisoners during the last period of integrated with the efforts taken by Official Authorities.

At the end of the meeting, the President of Al- Shura Council gave the honorary shield of Al- Shura Council as a present for the President of the National Prisoner Foundation in recognition of the Foundation’s efforts in the care of prisoners and prisons in Yemen.
